theres nothing wrong with a producer gettin some help, so making a beat completely on his own is something most producers dont do.....you need to ask whats the last beat that dre was truly involved in and centered around, cuz if he has someone play his idea out, pretty much still his beat, but if he just jacks it from someone or has someone ghost, different story...to answer your question? most likely NWA days, but as far as making the beat with some help but he still did lots of the work.....ehhh i really dont know, he was good about pickin ghost producers that didnt completely dominate him and have a diff. style

This is off topic, but still worth adding..

I read in SoundOnSound that Michael Jackson "pre produced" some of the beats on the Dangerous album. He would hum his melody into the mic, and it would be recorded. (I assume he recorded in layers to create a full beat, i dunno)..Then a producer would listen to that recording and create a duplicate beat with real instruments. ..I'm not sure if this was just one song, or all of them.. ..and my paraphrasing is unreliable.

Anyways, I've been fighting with this in my head. .
Did Michael Jackson create the beat which he had hummed? Or did the producer create it? ..Well I guess if you look at it technically, Michael was the composer (?) and the producer was the producer. ..But it is still confusing. I think Michael should get 80% production credits, even though he didn't actually do the producing.

...but I think it is a good idea to have a "team" create a beat. Sometimes another producer will add something that the 1st producer would have never thought of.. Plus some parts of making a beat become so repetitive and mundane that it's better to just have someone else do it.

I dunno..

If u a producer that doesn't mean u play the keys or anything... means u PRODUCE the trac and/or beat.

i dont think any of us were in the studio when any of the songs hes been involved with were made so how do any of us know anything besides what the credits tell us and what people add to what the credits tell us and act like its a fact.... who knows the last sing handedly dre produced track... hell it could be still dre for all we know...
