HUh? I don't get it. How can you call something dope when you don't even understand it? the lyrics could be mad wack, only their flow could be saving them from total wackness.

Unless you don't care about lyrics and just care about flows.

Cause that's pretty much the case with the Korean group Drunken Tiger, their lyrics aren't all that but they got dope flows.

I know a few dope Japanese rappers but that's cause I understand them since they rap in English.

No cos hip hop is all about being yourself - which is why it is being ruined by all the fake gangstas. These Japs try to sound American - they arent being themselves - that's wack.

funny how fake gangsta's in the music industry began being fake in the US first tho right... lol

anyway... dressing/walking/dancing the same as so called "gansta's" doesn't equate to japanese artists being gangsta does it... thats just one of the many fashion styles in hip hop which are kinda "cool" to folks... any artist expresses themselves from THIER point of view through thier music... in the way they feel they can... like anybody in hip hop these days... jus cause you feel threatened by it and they may sound aggressive doesn't mean they rappin bout being gangsta's...

back to being one's self... can americans as a whole say they are themselves though... i mean everything is from everywhere else... ideas... culture... technology... etc... unless you are native american and haven't been touched by any other way of life...

music is universal as is HIP HOP...

only thing WACK is all the negativity created by those who misunderstand hip hop...

america is not the only country in the world people... and what is trying to sound american? the japanese artists sound pretty japanese to me yo... oh yeh... i haven't seen/heard any "yakuza" tracks yet tho... that would be gangsta yeh? lol

you must be teenagers... you only think as far as you see...

whats ironic is one day you folks probably gonna turn around and contradict ya'selves due to some ill japanese track/artist...

all in good time

No, I didn't mean that all emcees who spit in English are ill either. I'm just asking if you only care about flows and not lyrics to consider an artist that you don't understand their language in to be dope when they could have wack lyrics.

The same goes for emcees who spit in English, they can still be wack if they have good lyrics but no flow. You need both to be considered dope, IMO anyway.

You are officially a moron. The three tracks I played on that site all had MCs putting on American accents as best they could, they are trying to be something they are not - American.

U say America stole everything from other sources...... I didnt even say anything about that. I am reffering to people as individuals, most individuals have their own views and ideas which they are exspressing in hip hop, it doesnt even matter what the place where they come from does.

Nor did I say America was the only place in the world, lol, I'm from England so obviously I realize this. Plus, I heard rap from all over the world and all the dope stuff is when MCs are true to themselves.

People putting on accents which they dont have is just as wack as people takling about things they dont own or do (ie. shoot people).

Think first next time, u'll look less stupid.

obviously you don't know what your talking about there... there's a difference between having a smooth sounding voice and an accent... from what you saying... every time a person says "yeah" or "yo" they are putting on an american accent...or any japanese/english word that they rap in a smooth tone... lol... a perfect example of folks trying to sound american and being "fake" is "big brovaz" but i wouldn't class that as hip hop... i chose them as an example because they are known in the uk generally and have dudes rapping with a sure fire "put on" accent and can almost convince you they sound american...

i see you agree on something here... but contradict yourself with your argument over the fact that in your opinion the japanese are trying to sound american... when obviously you don't see that when a person speaks english... the words they have to learn are from somewhere... and will have to use intonation in thier own voice in order to make the word sound... hence why people have accents in the first place... and as you can hear in everything rhymed it has a japanese overtone to every english word...

like many folks that present themselves here on rapmusic right? lmao... kinda reminds me of the influence over the past 10 years that the tv soap eastenders in the south east of england has... folks just picked up that accent even though thier not from london... or even the east end of london... the "cockney" accent but without the rhyming slang... so their accents must be fake right? plus the actors when off screen are well spoken... eg. if you watch the news in london they speak well... but many people hardly watch the news enough to absorb that... lol

with your view on accents the whole world is fake... simply cause these people are making thier best efforts to utter english words... the only way you would probably not comment on the fake issue is if they were stumbling very badly trying to make the words understandable in english...

you just have a problem with music you don't like cause of superficial things regarding this thread... these folks are not focused at being fake... unlike those in mainstream pop culture... wannabe rappers who just copy the latest style/flow/lyrical content/behaviour to be with the in crowd at the time... not individual at all... which again is another ironic flaw in contrast to your individualism comment...

maybe your ear isn't as tuned for hip hop as it should be...DIVERSE... you're probably just one of those folks which are known as "heads" dedicated to how they think hip hop SHOULD sound/be... a RESTRICTIVE form of generic flows/subject matter/fashion statements etc... and don't like things to grow and build...

as hip hop is diverse... anything less than that is what i would call wack...

call me whatever you like... you can be the judge of that...

if any of you have dope track of j-rap
i'll give the password to upload on my j-hip-hop soundclick site

also im thinkin of makin a 24/7 internet radio
with many style of music, in many languages
(i speak french, vietnamese, english, a bit spanish and japanese)

to everglaze

in japan, like every country with hip-hop
there's wack people and dope ones

the songs that are on my soundclick site
are a small percentage of the hip-hop scene in japan, their is a large variety of style

they have really dope MCs with dope rhymes
and intelligent topic

its normal that their is a influence from america

but there's some MCs who really got the japanese style, talking about things in japan
with japanese slang, on some japanese beats made with samples of traditional japanese instruments..

anyway
my main point is
until you really know something
you cant really judge it correctly

and those who knows how to use MIRC
and want to discuss about japanese hip-hop
and download stuff
go on a random spacetronix server
and channel ubg-chat

Rez, after u explained yourself better I now see where u are coming from... but still disagree. You are saying they are trying to speak English as well as possible and are mimmicking what they hear - Americans, I am saying they shouldnt even bother cos it's not them. I arent American and I dont try to put on an American accent, it's not me and I believe people should just be themselves.

Quote:

I wasnt reffering to those phrases at all, I think the way the are pronouncing the words sounds like they are trying to be American - nothing to do with the actual vocabulary they use.

To be fair though..... the Japs I heard rapping were trying to sound like them as well though, they didnt have anything really original about them except they werent doing a good job with the Amercan accent.

And the individual comments... I am talking real MCs, not the bullshit commercial ones who all have a similiar style and rap about the same thing over and over again. I mean real MCs who think outside the box and say what they think - not what they think will sell.

EXACTLY!! The Jap rap I heard was just mimmicking American stuff and therefore is nothing new except they do it badly cos of them forcing an accent. They are Japanese, they should represent the Japanese culture and everything about it... including the language.

People should be themselves and not try to copy what they hear... originality is the key to being nice and standing out from the crowd. From what I heard, they are just copying the crowd and not doing it well cos it isnt natural to them.
