1st thing anybody in music needs to know is what a bar is and how to write in them. VERY FEW people on here know what a bar is. Even some of the people you might think are tight don't know this and will never get any good until they do.

To learn exactly what a bar of music is you can: Look in the dictionary, talk to people who play rock music/a drummer/ or a good producer (wack ones are often wack because they don't really know either). You will never have a good flow till you know this information so don't stop after the dictionary.

Hip-hop is 4/4 timing so it should be easy for you to learn hip-hop bars. One big tip that should send you on the right track is that hip-hop bars revolve around the drums.

Example of a bar:
Bar 1--->"I'm cancerous- so when I dis, you wouldn't wanna answer this/"
Bar 2--->"if you repsonded back- wit' a battle rap, you wrote for Canibus/"
Bar 3--->"I'll strangle you to DEATH..., and then- choke you again/"
Bar 4---->"and break your fuckin' legs, till your bones poke through your skin/"

heres another example of a bar....now remember this is only one bar but its 2 lines...

Well it seems to work out to 1.5 barz but if you set it to maybe a 80-85 bpm beat with a 90-95 bpm flow it would work and still sound right with an up beat melody layered in on the low bpm instrumental.

Is there any more information you can give on a bar....how long should they be when in 4/4 times? Also how do you know when a bars is complete and what is the Beat in the bar?? like how do you know when you have your four beats for the bar???

on bars when you count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4, does your bar end on 4??

When I write my lyrics, I think of a simple

kick(1), snare(2), kick(3), snare(4) where the beginning of every line is on the one, and the last word of the line is on the 4, denoted by //...... but there are words that can go past the last snare, but before the 1 again, so I write my rhymes like this.

In order to read the future we need a thesis // I

the "I" after thesis comes before the first wonrd of the second line, but after the word on the snare..... so it goes after the // marks

as well, if a line doesn't flow into the next line, like it stops on the snare, then I don't put any // marks up.

it's much easier to read the flow of lines like this, I find. I hope my littls scheme catches on.

In the 4/4 time signature which is a constant in hip hop music all you have to say is:

A bar is 4 beats:

kick/snare/kick/snare

The line should start nearest to the first kick and end on the last snare but can carry over and still keep the continuity.

16 bars to a verse for a three verse song
I prefer 8 bars for the hook

or you can go
24 bars for a two verse song
