writing effective metaphors and similies

I've read some stuff bout metaphors and similies but i just cant seem to write effective ones...can anyone help me out with this....besides saying practice...i know i do practice a lot but wat else could help me?

Meta's and Similies are tricky to get people to understand them...and some people have a hard time just throwing them in a verse and making it fit...

I think of Punches,Meta's,Similies, ect As Jokes when i try to fit them in a line or verse and i use them as attention grabbers

Example...

I'm The King Of This Shyt So I Never Stand On The Front Line
And I Neva "Swallowed" No Numbers But I Still "Dump" 9's/

I Used that Line As A "Attention Grabber"...Just think of shyt that would make you listen a lil closer to a verse and they'll come to you quicker and with more practice
