My issue with House is the same as my issue with CSI. It's not that they are
unscientific, it's how they handle the fact they are unscientific.

I'm not talking about House making fucking ludicrous connections or Gary Sinses piss poor understanding of high school physics. I accept it has to be dramatised. My issue is how they deal with the fundamental departures from reality.

CSI has scientists running tests on samples that not only do they know the identity of the donor, not only do they know the context of the crime, not only did they obtain the samples themselves, not only do they investigate the suspects THEMSELVES but they often SELECT the best evidence to build a case against the suspect. In the real world, every single piece of evidence that lab provides is inadmissible. Which I can handle. It's when they selectively talk about how bias effects results that I turn off. Nigga are you fucking kidding me? You run around with a gun, breaking into peoples homes, pledging to get revenge for victims and get into season long battles with serial killers but you blast the new guy for not being objective/scientific?

House is much better. The character of House explains why they have the very unscientific practice of 3 doctors carrying out everything from admission, to hypothesis, to obtaining samples, to running tests, to prescribing treatment etc. It's done so under the premise that House is a maverick doctor who dismisses all other doctors as incompetent. The writers will also acknowledge the absence of objectivity and show how that effects proceedings. Above all else - every character in that show continually points out the stupidity of Houses practise despite the fact he's got a hit rate of like 99.99%

Hospitals are dramatic places. It's just you don't get to practice medicine like House does. All medicine is specialised and you perform within that speciality and that involves A LOT of palliative care and general patient rehabilitation - which is all boring as fuck.
