WWE Armageddon Preview: 12/14

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Triple H vs. Kane vs. Goldberg

When he pinned Triple H to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series, Goldberg thought he had overcome one of the toughest challenges of his career. Little did he know that the challenges were just beginning.

Fresh off a stirring victory over Shane McMahon at Survivor Series in an Ambulance Match, Kane wasted no time seeking out his next victim when he attacked both Triple H and Goldberg less than 24 hours later. Kane has proven to be unstoppable recently and is possibly the most dangerous man on the RAW roster heading into Armageddon.

And if that is not enough for Goldberg to handle, Triple H continues to be obsessed with the World Heavyweight Championship and his anger with Goldberg seems to grow with every passing day. A $100,000 bounty and subsequent shattered ankle was not enough to stop Goldberg from successfully defending the World Heavyweight Championship, nor were several attacks by Evolution. Triple H seems more determined than ever before to not only earn back the World Heavyweight Championship but to destroy Goldberg in the process as well.

However, Goldberg’s ability to succeed in the face of adversity seems to be what fuels his fire, so his challenge at Armageddon could be exactly what he is looking for. Goldberg was everybody’s target during his legendary undefeated string as a rookie in the old WCW. Later, he overcame the powerful nWo to gain the WCW Championship. His greatest challenge was defeating Triple H with a shattered ankle at Survivor Series … but that challenge was nothing compared to what Goldberg will see at Armageddon! Can Goldberg survive a match with two of the toughest opponents he has ever faced? Does Triple H have a plan up is sleeve with Evolution? Is there anybody who can stop Kane? Only one way to find out … order Armageddon!

INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Randy Orton vs. Rob Van Dam

The self-proclaimed Legend Killer has his sight set on joining a very legendary group himself by earning his first WWE gold – the Intercontinental Championship. If Randy Orton is successful, he will join an Intercontinental Championship group that includes legends of sports entertainment such as Pat Patterson, Ken Patera, Bret Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and many others.

Also in the fraternity of Intercontinental Champions that Orton is looking to join, is Rob Van Dam, the man who will defend the belt against Orton at Armageddon. RVD is a five-time Intercontinental Champion, tying him with Triple H for the second most number of reigns as Intercontinental Champion, and he has proven to be willing to do anything to hold on to the Championship. RVD’s incredible athleticism and rare combination of speed, strength, and high-flying skill makes him one of the most formidable Intercontinental Champions in WWE history. If Orton is to gain the Intercontinental Championship, it will take perhaps his best match to do so.

The wild card in this match could be the presence of Evolution, who has been in Orton’s corner every step of the way during his ascension to one of the top Superstars on RAW. Will Evolution find its way into the ring at Armageddon to aid Orton? Whether or not this happens could make the difference as to whether Orton enjoys his first taste of gold or not.

Shawn Michaels vs. Batista

There are some who will say that Shawn Michaels’s performance at Survivor Series was the shining moment of a legendary career. Despite ultimately losing the match that ended the career of Stone Cold Steve Austin, a bloodied Michaels battled to the very end in a way that only legends fight. Michaels earned nothing but praise for his effort and could have easily moved on with his career, knowing that he is forever entrenched in a category of greatness that only true warriors enjoy. But for HBK, there is something driving him that is more powerful than anything that has ever driven him before, something that could lead him to an effort even greater than that at Survivor Series …

Unfinished Business.

At Armageddon, HBK will face Batista, the man who’s interference caused Michaels to lose his match at Survivor Series. Michaels’s legendary career includes rivalries with every member of Evolution that will be considered among the most heated of his career. However, if the road to Armageddon is a sign of things to come, the HBK-Batista rivalry could be the most physically intense that Michaels has ever been involved in. HBK is intent not just on winning the match, but on a victory in this war with Batista.

However, as angry as Michaels is, expect the very same from Batista, who is making a living by taking out his anger on others. Batista is very much the muscle behind Evolution and between his brute strength and intensity, and the backing of Evolution, for Michaels to walk out of this match victorious, it may take an effort even greater than that of Survivor Series. Does the veteran HBK have it in him to overcome an opponent as physical as the young Batista? Only one way to find out … order Armageddon!

Booker T vs. Mark Henry

In a storied career that includes five WCW Championships and incredible success as a tag team competitor, Booker T has been known as a Superstar with the athleticism to compete with the biggest and strongest opponent or the smallest and quickest foe. At Armageddon, Booker T will have to face an individual the likes of which he has rarely seen before.

Mark Henry is not only the World’s Strongest Man, but since joining forces with Theodore Long, he has gained the attitude to back up his strength. This Mark Henry is downright mean and he is out to not only defeat Booker T at Armageddon, but to destroy him as well.

Booker T has a recent victory over Henry on RAW, but he also fell victim to Henry’s brute power during a Salt Lake City Street Fight as part of RAW Roulette, and has been pounded by Henry during attacks at subsequent RAW televised and live events. He does not possess the strength to match Henry’s, but Booker T does enjoy a speed advantage that he must utilize at Armageddon. But, as Booker T has found out the hard way, one wrong move and Henry can execute the World’s Strongest Slam … something that Booker T will have to avoid if he hopes to be successful at Armageddon.

BATTLE OF THE SEXES

WWE Divas Trish and Lita will team up to take on their one-time love interests Chris Jericho and Christian in a Battle of the Sexes.

TAG TEAM TURMOIL

Also at Armageddon, the teams of the Dudley Boyz, Mark Jindrak & Garrison Cade, Val Venis & Lance Storm and Hurricane & Rosey will compete in a Tag Team Turmoil Match.
