I'm playing it again. There is distortion from being a little too close to the mic. Back away a little. and a little more emotion can be pulled off if some method acting is applied. I think that if anyone actually wants to be serious about the art of spoken word poetry, take an acting class, if only it's just one small introductory class.
Good piece. Just back up at least 4 inches from the mic. I'd say a foot or so and really let it go, nah mean?
