you may think its the latest trend
because it blew up fairly recently in the mainstream
but hip-hop been in japan since early 80's
japaneses are often among top 5 in worldwide DeeJaying and Breakdancing competition
they have really skillful MCs and graffers too
their is several clubs and events related to hip-hop
def jam and DPG recordz both have their respective label in japan
with japanese MCs and producers
DJ Premier, Snoop, Daz, Kraziye Bone, Beenie Man, Mos Def, and countless american underground artists (just check out the DJ Krush cds) have collabored with japanese hip-hop artists
but i agree, in the mainstream
alot of them copy the american style
in the mainstream
