Kind of Blue ( the Miles Davis album Pyro posted) is nice as hell. Especially the fourth track.
Well... to answer your question........look up some Tommy DOrsey, Benny Goodman, Artie shaw...... all of them are big band musicians/composers...
Sarah Vaughan is the greatest Jazz vocalist of all time, in my opinion.... so she'd be someone to check out, if you haven't already.
